The Gameboy Advance Edition requires a Gameboy Advance emulator such as VisualBoyAdvance. It should also work on real hardware if you have a flash cartridge. It will not work in "download play." There are some bugs in this and I will NOT support it. And I am NOT responsible if you try it on hardware and it somehow damages it.
The DOS version is v0.94, one of the last public releases, hacked to work with DOSBox. (Original distributions have bugs that prevented it from running under DOSBox.) The included copy is already configured to run with DOSBox and on Windows all you have to do is unzip the file and use the included "RUNME.BAT" to start it up. On other OSes you simply have to mount the EPOCH094 directory and run "sonic.exe"; there should be plenty of information elsewhere about how to do this in DOSBox. You will still probably want to adjust volume and input settings from the "Options" menu on the title screen. It does have quite a few bugs and I will NOT support it. Although it shouldn't do any harm running inside DOSBox, I'm NOT responsible for any damage that should happen to your computer either.
